In an age where the demands of work often overshadow the needs of the spirit, finding time for spiritual rejuvenation becomes essential. Recognizing this, AMCC, through the Chaplaincy office and the AMCC Master Guide Club, recently organized a spiritual retreat at Damayo’s Beach Resort in Initao, Misamis Oriental, aimed at fostering spiritual camaraderie among its members and fortifying the spirituality of its workers. Spanning from February 9 to February 10, the retreat provided a unique opportunity for reflection, connection, and growth.
The retreat commenced on a solemn note as participants jointly welcomed the Sabbath on the first night, led by now-retired Pr. Bernardito Demol. This sacred gathering set the tone for the ensuing activities, emphasizing the importance of spiritual fellowship and communion. Following the Sabbath welcome, each care group ventured to their designated areas to prepare dinner, setting the stage for intimate conversations and bonding.
As the evening progressed, at 7:00 PM after the bonfire, the participants engaged in forum group discussions facilitated by thought-provoking questions. These discussions, guided by the wisdom of facilitators, encouraged introspection and dialogue, nurturing a sense of community and shared purpose among the attendees.
The Sabbath morning dawned with a symbolic activity titled “Carry Your Candle,” commencing at 4:30 AM. In this exercise, each care group was entrusted with a candle, symbolizing their spiritual journey. Lighting their candles from a central source, participants embarked on a symbolic walk, navigating challenges represented by facilitators attempting to extinguish their flames. This powerful metaphor underscored the resilience required to navigate life’s trials while reaffirming the collective strength found in spiritual unity.
As the day unfolded, the traditional corporate Sabbath program gave way to a more intimate setting, with each care group selecting a venue for further forum group discussions. Guided by probing questions provided by facilitators, participants delved deeper into matters of faith, purpose, and personal growth, fostering meaningful connections and insights.
Following a period of reflection and dialogue, the Sabbath afternoon offered an opportunity for teamwork and camaraderie through various team-building activities facilitated by the organizers. Divided into five stations, each care group embarked on tasks designed to challenge and unite them, reinforcing the importance of cooperation and mutual support in the journey of faith.
Throughout the retreat, amidst the serene backdrop of Damayo’s Beach Resort, participants found solace, inspiration, and renewal. Whether engaged in profound discussions, symbolic activities, or collaborative endeavors, the overarching goal remained constant: to strengthen spiritual bonds and deepen individual and collective spirituality.
As the retreat culminated with the sunset on February 10, participants departed with hearts full of gratitude and spirits invigorated. The experience served as a reminder of the transformative power of spiritual fellowship and the enduring strength found in unity, echoing the timeless wisdom that together, we are stronger.
In the wake of the retreat, the spirit of camaraderie and spiritual growth continues to resonate within the AMCC community, serving as a beacon of hope and inspiration for all who seek nourishment for the soul in an increasingly busy world.
