Professor Genevieve Tonog Publishes Scopus Q1–Indexed Research in Elsevier Journal
Adventist Medical Center College (AMCC) continues to demonstrate its commitment to academic excellence and research advancement as Professor Genevieve Tonog, RND, PhD successfully published a research article in a Scopus-indexed (Q1) journal under Elsevier, one of the world’s leading academic publishing companies.
The research article, entitled “Targeted inhibition of PI3K/Akt by luteolin-rich Hydrilla verticillata in TNF-α and IFN-γ-induced atopic keratinocytes,” contributes to ongoing scientific efforts to understand and develop potential therapeutic approaches for inflammatory skin conditions.
The study investigates the anti-inflammatory properties of luteolin-rich extracts derived from Hydrilla verticillata, an aquatic plant known for its bioactive compounds. Using a cellular model of inflammation, the research examined how the extract influences keratinocytes stimulated by tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interferon-gamma (IFN-γ)—two inflammatory cytokines commonly associated with atopic dermatitis and other inflammatory skin diseases.
Findings from the study demonstrate that the luteolin-rich fraction of Hydrilla verticillata may help regulate inflammatory responses by targeting and inhibiting the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, a key molecular pathway involved in inflammation and immune regulation. These findings highlight the potential of plant-derived bioactive compounds in the development of novel anti-inflammatory interventions.
